Status of Parenting: Dreams, Choices, and Conflicts

I teach my children that life is not fair, but I also hope to teach them that they can dream about a day when it is. Most people agree that it’s not really about the life you choose, but the power you have in choosing it. There’s nothing worse than feeling that you are a situation that you are in, but wouldn’t have chosen it if there were other options available. For years, people (especially women) have fought to simply have choices available, especially when it comes to parenting. And while we have gained opportunities in the working world, we have also given up some in the “motherworld”. Why is…

    Christina And Husband Separate

Well, you can’t say I didn’t see this coming. Please refer to my post called Pop Star/Wife & Mom? Once again it’s a prime example unfortunately of how when people get married and have children, they still seem to think that just because they may have lots of money and trainers to be able to fit back into those size 0’s again, that they are also going to be able to have their life magically reappear as it was before with a great career and loving spouse, only this time with a kid in toe. Unfortunately gals, it just doesn’t work that way. Out of different celebrity couples, I look…

16 And Pregnant And Teen Mom Reduce Pregnancy?

I’m a huge fan of this show and have done quite a few posts here on it. While some of it is for strictly entertainment value, there’s the other side which thinks that this show is monumental in helping to spread awareness and provide education to young teens out there who are having sex. Most teens and even tweens out there (my 12 year old as an example) do not look at the lives of these teen parents and say, whoa that looks like it’s way fun and cool! Even while I find some entertainment and education in the show myself, I can’t help but look at the position of…

    Are Relationships Without Children Healthier?

This question comes to me for a few reasons. The first one being that I happened to look it up and see where they have done studies in Europe and America who say that couples without children are overall happier. The second reason is after my own experience as well as looking at those around me I sort of have came to this conclusion on my own. With all of the reality shows out there that now show couples who are expecting children and the first year or two after they have them, it’s also impossible not to see this undeniable trend of stress on the relationship due to kids.…

Is Waiting Til Later The Answer?

Being of the generation of women who are taught that we can “have it all”, there are still few women who make the decision to not have children (there are studies on these women and the link to their education level) and many more who have made the decision to have both the career and the kids. The answer to their balancing act is often to simply wait longer to have children. So the question is, how is this working for us? I had my first child at 19 and my additional two at 25. I have a best friend that had her children around those ages as well, so…

    Grandmother Gives Birth To Grandchild

After suffering from two unsuccessful pregnancies, one of which was twins who were stillborn, a Chicago family tried a different route. Christine Casey, 61 years old, made the decision to be the surrogate for her daughter and son-in-law. Wow. The pregnancy was successful and now they are celebrating their new son and grandson. Casey delivered the baby C-section. I love my daughter more than anything in this world. I couldn’t imagine having to watch her suffer through the heartache and pain of those miscarriages. But to be a surrogate for her? Honestly, I’m just not so sure about that. First of all, my body has taken a beating from pregnancy…

    Is College Still Good Idea?

My oldest just played in his league’s basketball championship game last Saturday. He’s sort of looking away towards the angle of where his dad is taking the picture. They didn’t win by a few points, however he has came a long way this season. This is his third year playing and I guess his hard work has finally payed off. He lucked out and was on a great team this year and got a little taste of what playing sports can offer. When he was younger, he leaned more towards playing football, but luckily (because what mother wants to possibly face those type of injuries) basketball has seemed to stick…

    Suburban Housewife

One of the great things about the internet is youtube and the fact that pretty much anyone can rise on the scene with whatever. I’m a fan of the facebook page “Moms Who Drink And Swear” and she posts some pretty hilarious stuff…obviously. Recently she shared a youtube video of a lady who performs some raps around her character “Suburban Housewife” and I must admit I have also found her skits to not only be hilarious but also to serve as a national public service announcement. There’s nothing funnier than the truth and this woman has found a great avenue to tell it. There are a few different videos that…

    Parent Teacher Conference

So not too long ago, I got a request for a parent teacher conference for my daughter. Her dad and I went to pretty much hear mostly what we already knew about her (and me in some ways, lol). Apparently she thinks school is more of a place for her to socialize. She likes to “do hair” at gym. She got a comb stuck in her friend’s hair to where it took the teacher over 15 minutes to get it out and almost traumatized her friend with the thoughts of them having to cut it out. My daughter was brought to tears. I think a friend of mine and I…

    Designer Babies

So is the day really ever going come where you pick out and purchase your future child’s features like you would for a home you are building? According to some, it definitely may. There is what they call “gene therapy” that is currently used to help filter out genetic disorders and diseases, however some clinics are allowing couples to actually pick the sex of their child. It seems that this whole side of science and technology is moving at such a rapid pace that no one is able to really put a red button on it in order to figure out the potential consequences. While some say that American’s don’t…
