How to Use Meditation to Calm Your Child for Bed
It’s hard to get children to go to bed and, sometimes, it’s even harder to get them to go to sleep. They are a whirlwind of energy, and it’s hard to settle them down. However, you can use chakra meditation to help calm their minds so they sleep well.
Understanding Chakras and Their Role in Meditation
Chakras are primary points in our bodies that many believe control certain aspects of our lives. Clearing chakras is thought to allow for a free flow of energy through our bodies, allowing for a better life.
The seven chakras are thought to control spirituality, groundedness, relationships, assertiveness or confidence, communication, imagination or thought, and creativity. Each of these chakras is associated with a color, which is a wonderful way to use this type of meditation with children to get them to sleep.
Using Chakra Meditation to Calm Your Child
The idea is to describe each chakra, its color, and its purpose to the child so their minds slow down to concentrate on the color and what it represents. In a way, it is repeating a positive mantra to children because you are telling them all the things they can be.
Root Chakra (Red) – Grounding
Most scripts for chakra meditation for children begin at the spine’s base, which is the root chakra. It is red and symbolizes grounding. You can say things like:
“I am safe. I am secure.”
Allow your child to repeat it.
Sacral Chakra (Orange) – Happiness and Creativity
The chakra below the belly button is orange and represents happiness, friendliness, and creativity. Tell them all of this is in them and have the child repeat:
“I am happy. I am creative.”
Solar Plexus Chakra (Yellow) – Confidence and Strength
The energy center above the stomach is the third chakra, and it’s yellow. It represents bravery, confidence, strength, and motivation. Here, you tell the child to let go of all the disappointments of the day and enjoy the warm feeling.
Heart Chakra (Green) – Love and Kindness
The heart chakra is filled with love. Surprisingly, it’s green. Here is where you instruct the child to let go of any sadness and think of love, forgiveness, kindness, and gratitude. All those things fill up areas where sadness or disappointment existed. Let them repeat:
“I am loved.”
Throat Chakra (Blue) – Communication and Expression
The throat chakra is blue and represents communication. It represents truth, courage, and standing for what’s right. Tell the child they are free to express themselves since their thoughts and feelings matter.
Third Eye Chakra (Indigo) – Intuition and Mindfulness
The sixth chakra is in the middle of the forehead and is known as the third eye. It’s indigo, and the focus here is on intuition and mindfulness. Tell the child to think of purple swirls and understand that they have things they just know even though they can’t see them.
Crown Chakra (White) – Imagination and Purpose
The crown is the last chakra and is located at the top of the head. It is bright white and radiant. Tell your child to let go of worries to be able to imagine things and that we are part of a bigger purpose.
Helping Your Child Use Chakra Meditation at Night
You can tell your child that if they feel scared or anxious in the night, they can think of one of these colors to help them face their fears. Giving them this tool will help them fall asleep in peace and with fewer overnight worries and fears.
